Journey’s End was prompted by the 2021 incident where 27 refugees drowned in the English Channel. The figure is breaking apart and disintegrating resembling a torn up photograph floating apart. Sometimes photographs are all we have to remember loved ones by. The figure is dressed in Kurdish fashions and accompanied by a wingless bee which references the book, The Beekeeper of Aleppo that I was reading when I was working on this piece. Bees can suffer from a virus which causes this condition and those bees affected are ejected from the hive.
