In collaboration with The Howard Centre in Welwyn Garden City, I launched a project to build a hive of lockdown experiences. The project was based around my drawing, ‘Hive‘ which imagined households in lockdown. Entrants could download a worksheet and draw their own lockdown experiences. Selected artworks were then displayed on the Hive Community Artwork (next to Clare’s in the North Mall) and there were prizes for the best images.
The winners receiving their vouchers,
The project was part of a wider initiative to utilise empty shop spaces to engage more people with artwork outside of traditional gallery spaces – including an exhibition by the Digswell Arts Trust ceramicists based at the Fenners building.
If you, or any artists you know, are interested in exhibiting or taking part in the ongoing empty shops project – please contact Abi Freckleton, the organiser.
Very sadly, we were unable to fully fill the Hive as the unit where the community artwork was sited was let out to a tenant. The centre decided to end the project so they could occupy the unit.
